THE CHAIR’S ROUND TABLE

Donations of $1000 or more made to the Y’s Strong Kids Annual Campaign qualify the donor or donating couple for membership in the Chair’s Round Table. This is a very special group of individuals, companies, organizations and foundations demonstrating the vision, leadership and philanthropy that cultivates the quality of life in our community. They provide financial leadership at the highest level to ensure the YMCA-YWCA of Vancouver Island can fulfill its mission to be accessible to everyone.

The Y hosts a Chair’s Round Table reception event every year to recognize and celebrate members, providing them with an opportunity to network and learn more about the future direction of Y programs and services. Chair’s Round Table members have a special listing in the Y’s Annual Report.

GIFT OF CASH

An outright gift of cash is one of the simplest ways to give and often is the best way. Your gift goes to work immediately, meeting current needs. You receive a donation receipt for the full amount you give, resulting in immediate tax savings for you.

For example, if your combined federal and provincial tax credit equals 45%, a $5,000 cash gift to the YMCA-YWCA of Vancouver Island will result in tax savings of up to $2,250, so the actual cost of the gift to you is only $2,750! The amount you may claim in charitable donations in any one year is limited to 75% of your net income for that year and any excess may be carried forward for up to five years.

GIFT OF SECURITIES

There are benefits of donating a gift of securities to the YMCA-YWCA of Vancouver Island. First, you will receive a tax receipt for the fair market value of the donation in the amount of the closing trading price on the day the YMCA-YWCA receives the security. Second, your donation may be exempt from the capital gains tax that typically applies to the sale of a security.

The list of securities this applies to may include:

  • Shares listed on most Canadian and certain foreign stock exchanges
  • Prescribed debt obligations
  • Shares of the capital stock of a Canadian public mutual fund corporation
  • Units of widely held Canadian mutual fund trusts
  • Interest in related segregated fund trusts

TRIBUTE GIFTS

A Gift in Honour

A gift in honor is a great way to recognize a special occasion by making a contribution in their name. Or send a holiday wish by letting that special someone know you are thinking of them. When you make a gift of $25 or more, the YMCA-YWCA will send a card to the recipient acknowledging your gift. This gift is also recognized in the Y’s Annual Report.

A Gift in Memory

A gift in memory of a loved one or friend is an emotional and thoughtful tribute to them and their accomplishments in life. For all memorial gifts, we will send a card to the family of the person that you are making a tribute to acknowledging your gift. This gift is also recognized in the Y’s Annual Report.

You can also help by making any one of the following gifts:

  • A bequest in your will
  • An annuity, trust or other individual-interest gift
  • A dedicated memorial fund
  • Another kind of gift, such as property, investments or bonds
