Facility Guidelines

Victoria Downtown Y

Access

The Y is dedicated to providing a safe and secure environment.  All  members, participants, guests and visitors are required to be checked in before entering the Y.  To ensure the safety of all, non-members are required to have their picture taken prior to entry to the Y.

Please scan your card at the turnstile on arrival. This registers your visit and gains you access to the Y. If you forget your card please check in at Member Services with photo ID. If your card becomes lost or damaged, replacement cards can be purchased for a fee. Membership cards are the property of the Y and are non-transferable. Use of your card by someone else, with your knowledge, may result in membership cancellation.

Change Rooms

Please use the appropriate change room. Children and teens use the General change rooms. Children 5 years and under may use the opposite gender change room when accompanied by an adult parent or guardian. Children over the age of 5 years are required to use the same gender change room at all times.  Families with children over 5 years of age may use the changing stall located on the pool deck. Children of Plus members may access Membership Plus change rooms during family swim times and weekend child swim lessons and must be closely supervised and accompanied by a Plus Member at all times.

Lockers

Personal belongings, such as gym bags, may not be taken into program areas. Items of value may be stored in security lockers. All lockers are for day use only and are cleared each night. Please bring your own padlock. Padlocks can be rented or purchased at Member Services. The Y is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Lost and found

Lost and found items are held for 10 days, after which they are donated. Personal items such as razors and hairbrushes will not be kept for hygienic reasons. The Y is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Tote baskets

Baskets are available to rent for $5 per month.

Pool

In accordance with Health and Safety regulations, all members are required to shower with soap and water before entering the pool. Please remove footwear before entering the shower area and pool deck. Appropriate swimwear is required in the pool area. Upon exiting the pool, please dry off in the appropriate area.

Towels

Towel service is available at the Victoria Downtown Y. If you plan to visit another Y location please bring your own towel.

Etiquette

The Y is a shared experience for everyone to enjoy. Each of us can make it better for all by being considerate of others. Y members, participants and staff pledge to treat one another with respect and dignity. Membership is enhanced when all members share in promoting agreed standards of courtesy and behaviour.

Cell Phones

Cell phones should not be used on equipment or in workout areas. Please take calls in the lobby area only.

Dress Code

Appropriate clothing, such as non-marking indoor athletic shoes, t-shirts, athletic pants, leggings or shorts with a minimum inseam of 3” are required in the Y. We ask that you do not wear revealing clothing or clothing with inappropriate slogans or offensive comments. All members are required to wear closed toed shoes (no sandals) in the fitness area. We want all of our members to feel comfortable at the Y. Those members who do not meet the dress code will be asked to change.

Smoking Policy

There is no smoking anywhere on Y property. This includes parking lots.

Sensitivities to scents

Some members have severe allergies or sensitivities to strong scents. Please restrict the use of perfumes, colognes, hairsprays and body sprays.

Food and drink

Food and drink is not permitted in the fitness area. Non-spill, non-breakable beverage containers may be used throughout the facility. Please help us keep our facility clean and well-maintained.

Image recording devices

For personal security and privacy, photography and video recording are not permitted anywhere in the facility. Any exception to this protocol is only with expressed written permission of the Centre Manager. The use of image recording devices (including cell phone/PDA/camera or other recording device) in a suspicious manner should be brought to the attention of a staff member immediately.

Business

No person may conduct unauthorized business in any Y facility.

Langford Westhills Y
