Adventure Camps are ideal for returning Outpost Base Camp and five-day Quest campers as well as high school aged kids new to Camp Thunderbird interested in a shorter camp than our leadership development program. These 5-day programs have a ‘Base Camp’ and a ‘Quest’ stream both of which involve fun-filled and challenge-based adventure programming in the natural world.

 Campers finished grades 9-10

  • 9 campers, 2 counselors
  • 5 days
  • Base Camp program with all nights at camp
  • Quest program is fully mobile and does not take place at Camp Thunderbird
  • Environmental education, creative programming and campfires

Adventure Base Camp

The Adventure Base Camp is modeled after the classic five-day Camp Thunderbird program. The schedule is similar to that of our Outpost Base Camp programs but focuses on greater skill development in each activity, an increased level of challenge and self and peer leadership.

Adventure Quest Camp

Our Adventure Quest camps consists of a sea kayak expedition in the beautiful Southern Gulf Islands. This is a ‘mobile’ program – we meet the campers on day one at the beach where they launch for their 5 day out trip. After getting to know their guides and learning the basic skills they need to navigate the sheltered ocean waterways of the Gulf Islands, the group heads out to their first campsite. Technical skill instruction and leadership development is the focus of this program, with short paddling days in protected waters to helping to facilitate these goals. This experience gives participants strong skills and experience sea kayak camping with a shorter time commitment in comparison to our leadership programing.
