Summer at the West Shore Organic Teaching Garden
The Teaching Garden provided over 60kg of produce to Y Community Health programs this summer. These programs include the Y Pandora Youth Apartments and the Young Moms Program at Kiwanis Family Centre. The summer harvest included vegetables such as carrots, onions, beets, squash, potatoes, tomatoes, corn and much more!
Come Grow With Us!
Located at 2139 Sooke Road, the West Shore Organic Teaching Garden is a partnership between the YMCA-YWCA of Vancouver Island and School District 62. Featuring an orchard of heritage apple trees, herb beds and berry patches, a perennial garden, large raised garden beds, and a productive vegetable garden, the Teaching Garden has grown from humble beginnings in 2008 as a barren patch of schoolyard thanks to the efforts of our volunteers and supporters.
If you are interested in renting a garden box ($30+tax/year per 7’x3’x2’ box) or in volunteering opportunities at the Teaching Garden please contact the Teaching Garden Coordinator.
