Coming fall 2025! This Fall the Y will provide 48 spaces for before & after school care inside Hans Helgesen Elementary School.
Due to the high demand for child care spaces, all spaces are available for full week care only.

Monday – Friday 7:00am – 8:30 am & 2:30pm – 5:30pm on all school days

We are pleased to confirm that the YMCA-YWCA of Vancouver Island will apply for Hans Helgesen Child Care to participate in the Child Care Fee Reduction Initiative to reduce parent fees. Parent fee reduction amounts are prescribed by the Ministry of Education and Child Care and are based on the age and type of care a child is registered in.
Child Care fees include all program costs; including enriched program activities, and a nutritious morning and afternoon snack. The YMCA-YWCA of Vancouver Island reviews its fees on an annual basis.
Phase 2: Coming Fall 2026! Located on the grounds of Hans Helgesen Elementary School, the Y will open a brand-new child care facility and provide licensed child care spaces for an additional 12 Infant/Toddlers, 20 children 3-5 years old and a further 25 children of school age. Additional information, including registration timelines, will be shared in early 2026.
