Pool Schedules

Schedules are subject to change, without notice.  There is currently an industry-wide staffing shortage in aquatics; while we do our best to maintain a consistent schedule there will be times when we are forced to adjust the schedule without notice.


Y Aquatic Admission Criteria

The YMCA-YWCA of Vancouver Island is committed to providing a safe and enjoyable aquatic experience.  The following aquatic admission criteria allow us to meet both provincial and industry regulations and standards.

All children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by a responsible adult 16+years of age at all times.

  • Those with a serious medical condition should be accompanied by individual with knowledge of their condition and responsible for their direct supervision

Under 7 years In the water, within arm’s reach of all children at all times.

Maximum 3:1 ratio.

Applies to all pools.
7-9 years* On deck viewing area, not required to be in water within arms reach unless swimming ability of child necessitates it for safety.

Maximum 8:1 ratio.

Applies to all pools.  Adult has the ability to make frequent eye contact with the children.
10 years and older Can use the pool unaccompanied unless swimming ability of child necessitates supervision for safety. Swimming with a buddy is strongly recommended.

*Y members who are under the age of 10 and are competitive swimmers or practicing for an advanced aquatic certification wishing to attend a lane swim time must contact your branch’s centre manager in advance.

Change Rooms

There are two change rooms at the Downtown Y, the general and plus change rooms. The plus amenities include towel service, the lounge area, sauna and steam room.

Lockers are available in change rooms. Lockers require that you bring your own lock from home, no locks are available for sale, rent or loan.  Lockers are for use while in the facility only do not leave items overnight.  The YMCA-YWCA of Vancouver Island is not responsible for lost or stolen items from unlocked or locked lockers.   We strongly suggest that you leave all unnecessary items at home or stored out of sight safely in your vehicle.


DOWNTOWN Y AQUATIC Programs

Lane Pool – Lane Swim

For members ages 10 years and older. Circle swimming will be in effect, members are asked to follow signage posted at each lane. Aquatics staff will endeavor to ensure there is an appropriate distribution of abilities throughout the available lanes and may request that members relocate to another lane to ensure like abilities are in the same lane.

Leisure Pool – Water Walking and Kid Splash

Shared pool space for members of all ages to enjoy. Maximum depth of 3 feet. Use the warmer leisure pool for low-impact exercises, walking, stretching and splashing about. Access to pool noodles and a variety of toys. Children under the age of 10 must be accompanied in the water by an adult 16+.

Leisure Pool – Family Swim

Family Swim is an opportunity for parents/guardians and their families to enjoy and takes place in the Leisure Pool and one wide lane in the Lane Pool the slide will be open.

Lane Pool – Aquafit Class

Cardio training, strength exercises and stretching. Go at your own pace – or be challenged by our instructors.

 

Reserve a Class
