Schedules are subject to change, without notice. There is currently an industry-wide staffing shortage in aquatics; while we do our best to maintain a consistent schedule there will be times when we are forced to adjust the schedule without notice.
Y Aquatic Admission Criteria
The YMCA-YWCA of Vancouver Island is committed to providing a safe and enjoyable aquatic experience. The following aquatic admission criteria allow us to meet both provincial and industry regulations and standards.
All children under the age of 13 must be accompanied by a responsible adult 16+years of age at all times.
- Those with a serious medical condition should be accompanied by individual with knowledge of their condition and responsible for their direct supervision

*Y members who are under the age of 13 and are competitive swimmers or practicing for an advanced aquatic certification wishing to attend a lane swim time must contact your branches centre manager in advance.
DOWNTOWN Y AQUATIC FACILITIES
There are two change rooms at the Downtown Y, the general and plus change rooms. The Plus change room has re-opened, click here to learn more. The plus amenities include towel service, the lounge area, sauna and steam room.
Lockers are available in change rooms. Lockers require that you bring your own lock from home, no locks are available for sale, rent or loan. Lockers are for use while in the facility only do not leave items overnight. The YMCA-YWCA of Vancouver Island is not responsible for lost or stolen items from unlocked or locked lockers. We strongly suggest that you leave all unnecessary items at home or stored out of sight safely in your vehicle.

DOWNTOWN Y AQUATIC Programs
Lane Pool – Lane Swim
For members ages 13 years and older. Circle swimming will be in effect, members are asked to follow signage posted at each lane; lane capacities will be enforced. Aquatics staff will endeavor to ensure there is an appropriate distribution of abilities throughout the available lanes and may request that members relocate to another lane to ensure like abilities are in the same lane.
Leisure Pool – Shallow Water Walking
For members ages 13 years and older. Maximum depth of 3 feet. Water walking times are for members who wish to use the warmer leisure pool for low-impact exercises, walking, or stretches.
Leisure Pool – Kids Splash
Kids Splash is an opportunity for parents/guardians and children to enjoy and takes place in Leisure Pool. You must reserve a space for each person in your family who will attend.
Leisure Pool – Family Swim
Family Swim is an opportunity for parents/guardians and their families to enjoy and takes place in the Leisure Pool and one wide lane in the Lane Pool the slide will be open. You must reserve a space for each person in your family who will attend.
Lane Pool – Aquafit Class
Cardio training, strength exercises and stretching. Go at your own pace – or be challenged by our instructors. Deep water optional. Class style subject to change.
Private/Semi-Private Swimming Lessons
Private and Semi-Private Swim Lessons are for current Y members. Registration is required. Private Lesson fees are $32.50+gst per lesson; Semi-Private Lesson fees are discounted at 50% for the additional swimmer. Lessons are non-refundable.
Parent/caregiver (16+ yrs) participation is strongly encouraged if participant is under the age of 7yrs and/or uncomfortable in the water. Instructors will adapt teaching methods and use of pool space to ensure safety of participant while appropriate distancing is maintained.
Member booking the lessons is responsible for registering 2nd participant within same swimming ability and ensuring they are present for lessons.

PRIVATE SWIM LESSON REPORT CARDS
Report cards can be retrieved online using your child’s customer ID number. If you do not have this ID number or your child’s report is not listed please email our team.
